Аn interagency discourse: “Transparency of beneficial ownership: lessons and perspectives” is taking place іn Odessa

During July 1-2, 2021, an interagency discourse: “Transparency of beneficial ownership: lessons and perspectives” organized by the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine (the SFMS) under the auspices of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine and the EU/CoE Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) project “Strengthening measures to counter money laundering and financing of terrorism in Ukraine” is being held in Odessa.

The representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, the EU/CoE Partnership for Good Governance (PGG), the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine, and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the National Agency of Ukraine for finding, tracing and management of assets derived from corruption and other crimes, the Commission on Gambling and Lottery Regulation, the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, law enforcement agencies, etc. are taking part in this event.

The discourse focuses on issues that will help to understand the current problems of UBO data verification, as well as to increase the efficiency of the disclosure regime, which ensures the transparency of ownership and control structures. Particular emphasis during the discussion is placed on key aspects of identifying hidden levers of control and abuse of corporate governance mechanisms in terms of AML/CFT.

As the Head of the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine Igor Cherkaskyi noted: “This discourse has a high relevance and scientific and practical significance, both for representatives of state financial monitoring entities and reporting entities, state authorities, law enforcement agencies and the private sector”.

In the future, the SFMS is planing to continue cooperation with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine and the EU/CoE Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) in the framework of similar events at the central and regional levels.
