Since July 3, 2018, “EU Association Lab” has being realized in Ukraine as a competitive ground for new ideas designed to give impetus to the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. The mentioned program was opened by the Advisory Fund for EU Association of Ukraine, implemented by the German Agency “GIZ” on behalf of the German Government, jointly with its beneficiary, the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and with the participation of “1991 Open Data Incubator”.
The duration of “EU Association Lab” is scheduled for 5-6 months, during which ministries’ experts together with representatives of public administrations, business, and civil society will work on transforming ideas into product prototypes, planning strategies, and developing finished products on their basis.
The State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine assumed the lead in team formation to participate in “EU Association Lab”. The main team objective is to implement the idea of developing mechanism for examination and verification ultimate beneficial owners to ensure the transparency of corporate ownership in Ukraine. The team also included representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, the Notary Chamber of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine and the Anti-Corruption Centre.
On September 14, 2018, in Kyiv, during the workshop of jury, the idea “The Mechanism for verification ultimate beneficial owners” was determined as the winner along with 5 other, which have been selected for the incubation program among the fifteen previously selected in the semi-final. In course of the workshop, participants were mastering the basics of thinking design, prototyping projects and finalyzing concepts with mentors.
In October 2018, the first two workshops were held, during which the winning teams improved the ideas based on the method of thinking design, identified the needs for additional experts/consultants, and built a strategy for implementing the initiated projects. The next EU Association Lab training is scheduled for November 2018.
