The SFMS strengthens cooperation with the Financial Intelligence Unit of Jersey

The Head of the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine, Mr. Igor Cherkaskyi, signed with the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Jersey, Mr. Jonathan Groom, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning cooperation in the area of counteraction to the legalization (laundering) of the proceeds from crime, associated predicate offences, the financing of terrorism and the financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The exchange was made during the MONEYVAL 68th Plenary Meeting, which took place on 4-6, December 2024 in Strasbourg (France).

The Memorandum will enable the FIUs of Ukraine and Jersey to strengthen cooperation in collecting, processing and analyzing information related to suspected money laundering, associated predicate offenses, terrorist financing and financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The Head of the State Financial Monitoring Service, Mr. Igor Cherkaskyi, mentioned in this regard:

“This is an important step in strengthening our international cooperation. We are joining our resources and expertise with our foreign partners to ensure transparency of financial flows and prevent criminal acts. This approach is the key to effective fight against financial crimes in the face of modern challenges.”

Separately, the cooperation of the SFMS with representatives of the competent authorities of Jersey within a joint team regarding ongoing MONEYVAL Typologies Project: Proceeds and Conflicts should be noted.

Currently, the SFMS has concluded 85 international interagency agreements on cooperation with financial intelligence units of foreign states.
