During the event, Igor Cherkaskyi, Head of the SFMS, thanked the partners for their attention to the issue of combating money laundering in Ukraine, outlined the role of the SFMS in the financial monitoring system and emphasized that the implementation of joint initiatives reflected in the Memorandum will contribute to the stability and sustainable development of Ukraine, increase the transparency of financial flows, and strengthen the integrity and resilience of the national and international financial systems.

In his turn, Peter Dimitroff, Chief of Party, emphasized that the fight against financial crimes is important for Ukraine, both during the Russian aggression against Ukraine and in peacetime. Also, a separate Memorandum of Cooperation with the Pro-Integrity project was signed by the Academy of Financial Monitoring, which is managed by the SFMS. This is the first memorandum signed by the project with an educational institution in Ukraine.

For reference

The Promoting Integrity in the Public Sector (Pro-Integrity) project is a 5-year program launched in 2024 in Ukraine, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by DAI Global.

The largest anticorruption initiative in Ukraine’s history, Pro-Integrity aims to bolster Ukraine’s efforts to combat corruption and enhance transparency across all levels of governance. This significant assistance is aimed at advancing Ukraine’s ongoing fight against corruption, focusing on three primary objectives:

1.    Strengthening national anti-corruption institutional capacity: Enhancing the ability of national institutions to prevent, detect, and deter corruption.
2.    Bolstering anti-corruption compliance and control in local governance: Ensuring robust compliance and control mechanisms at the local level.
3.    Advancing transparency and accountability in resilience, recovery, and reconstruction efforts: Promoting transparency and accountability in Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction processes.

The program will engage a wide range of stakeholders, including specialized anti-corruption institutions within the Government of Ukraine, local government entities, the Ukrainian private sector, and civil society organizations. The project also lays the groundwork for future reconstruction efforts, ensuring they are transparent and inclusive.
